CLASSES

Traditional arts are different from Sport martial arts. Traditional arts are concerned about the person, his/hers contributions to society and the importance of building a confident individual. While teaching at the University of Wyoming over the past 29 years, W. Dan Hausel, produced many black belts, but more importantly, he produced people with focus who are now Astronomers, Physicists, Biologists, Geologists, Chemists, Nurses, Doctors, Linguists, Law Enforcement Personnel, Artists, Mathematicians, Engineers,  and Teachers.

When you enter your first training session, you will learn traditions of Okinawa karate - respect, lineage, some Japanese language. You will begin learning the basic stances, blocks, kicks, strikes. Within a short time, we you will start training in KATA (forms). Kata were originally developed in Okinawa as a living encyclopedia of self-defense applications. But they were so cleverly disguised that even today, most martial artists have little to no comprehension of their applications. We teach the use of every technique in every kata for self-defense applications.

In other sessions, you will practice KOBUDO - the ancient art of Okinawa weapons. Here you will see how ingenious the Okinawa peasants were. Both farmers and fishermen used their tools for practical weapons. Some tools we use include the bo (6-foot staff), hanbo (3-foot staff), nitanbo (2-sticks), kobutan (small stick - keychain), kioga (expandable baton), tonfa (batons), kama (sickle), manrikigusari (rope), tsue (cane), kuwa (hoe), katana (samurai sword), yari (Okinawa spear), naginata (halberd), and more.

Other nights, you will learn devastating self-defense against a host of attacks - gun defense, knife defense, multiple attackers, etc. This is excellent training for both women and men!
